Isolation Interviews: Victoria Coulton

Next up doing the Isolation Interview is Victoria Coulton. Victoria trained at Studio 79 in Leicester As part of the Curve Young Company she's performed in White Christmas and West Side Story.

Q - What was the first show that you remember seeing?
A - The first show I remember seeing was Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat! I was around 4/5, I think it was at DeMontfort Hall in Leicester!

Q - What inspired you to get into theatre?
A - I always watched classic musicals like Annie, Wizard of Oz, and Cats on VHS when I was a kid, but what made me really want to be a part of theatre was when I watched a video of Ariana Grande in 13 the Musical when I was 10/11! I thought it looked like the best job ever! So I then joined dance classes and a drama group, and watched more live theatre.

Q - Whose performance/s have had the biggest impact on you?
A - A performance that had always stayed with me was from Philippa Stefani when she played Mimi in Rent, she gave the most heart-wrenching performance, and I really look up to her!

Q - What is your favourite musical movie?
A - My favourite musical movie is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! I just love the music and the dancing!

Q - What are your favourite show tunes? (You can pick up to 5 songs)
A - In no order I’d have to say, Somewhere for West Side Story, Id Do Anything For Love from Bat out of Hell,  Everything Changes from Waitress, Those Magic Changes from Grease, Sunday from Sunday in the Park with George!

Q - What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
A - Everything happens for a reason.

Q - If you could have dinner with 3 theatre-related guests (doesn't have to just be performers). Who would you invite and why?
A - I’d have dinner with Lily James, because I’m obsessed with her in Cinderella and Mamma Mia here we go again! Gene Kelly because I would like to ask him about his movies and experience, and Lesli Margarita because she is so sassy and seems like a great person!

Q - What would your dream roles be?
A - Judy from White Christmas, Patty Simcox from Grease, and Ariel in The Little Mermaid!

Q -  As part of the Curve Young Company, you've worked on a couple of their Christmas productions - both White Christmas and West Side Story. How valuable was that experience for you?
A - It was extremely valuable because of all of the things we were taught during the rehearsal process and the performances, also I learnt about general history with being in West Side Story, I learnt how a professional theatre works and how shows come together, I valued the time in the rehearsal room and on stage because I knew how lucky I was to be a part of the wonderful work that the entire company created! I valued the time I spent with my castmates because I knew that they all had an amazing experience and I could learn from them.

Q - Away from the theatre what are your other favourite hobbies?
Away from theatre I play in Ratby Brass Band, I play the cornet for the Mid Band. I also like to draw and be creative!

Q -  Can you tell us something we wouldn't know about you?
A - Things you may not know about me is that I am a Twin, and if I couldn’t be in theatre I would open a dog rescue centre or be an air hostess!
