Best of 2021 Theatre

What a ride these past couple of years have been, for the large part 2020 saw theatre's closed due to the COVID pandemic but at last in May 2021 I got to return to a theatre after 14 months away. It's certainly been a bumpy journey and even in the past few weeks shows have once again struggled to battle the new variant but having the theatres back open is the highlight of the year for me.

To celebrate the end of the year here is my annual end-of-year awards post celebrating my favourite performances and production of the past year from the productions that I got to see. As usual, I've broken it down into various categories. I've included both streamed and in-person productions but have noted which ones were the streamed shows.

I've tried to only include the new* productions that I've seen in this list so shows such as Amelie and Come From Away are missing except for in the understudy category. Unlike previous years, this year I have decided I am not going to pick individual winners for each category. Please remember these are my own personal choice and are only for a bit of celebratory fun.

*new productions include productions that opened before 2021 but it was my first time seeing the show this year.
