Brainfools - Community Circus Day - Wandsworth Fringe Interview

In a series of interviews, we are chatting to artists involved with the 2024 Wandsworth Fringe. The Fringe Festival runs from 7th until 23rd June.

In this interview, we chat with Brainfools about Community Circus Day which runs at York Gardens on 23rd June.

Where did your arts career begin?
All of us began differently, a youth circus in the states, an acro class as an adult in Amsterdam and music performances. Brainfools itself started as a group of graduates of the national centre for circus arts banding together to put on their own shows.

What can you tell me about your show?
Our show is a combination of two separate shows. One is a light-hearted story showing how two acrobats might fit into pub culture and the other is a contemporary circus/music piece pushing the boundaries of how those two art forms can combine. Lucky pigeons is a family friendly circus/theatre piece all about surviving adversity and building community.

Where did the idea for the show come from?
The ideas for each show came from ideas of togetherness. One coming from exploration of how one can stand by others and be present. And the other two looking at how outsiders can fit into a culture they might not mesh with naturally.

How do you prepare for a performance?
Warm up! Talk through the show with the others. Run the challenging skills.

What is the message of your show?
Be present with others and life is more fun when everyone can participate!

If you were a biscuit, what would you be and why?
Bourbon creme. Because it sounds alcoholic but it's really just a sweety

Can you describe the show in three words?
Creative Circus Community
