As part as our Edinburgh Fringe 2024 coverage we are running a series of interviews with artists and creatives that are taking part in the festival.
In this interview we speak to James Rowlans about his show James Rowland Dies at the End of this Show.
Where did your arts career begin?
I guess when I was a kid, playing with my imagination or when I first applied to drama school in 2002, or when I went to drama school in 2004 or when I graduated from drama school in 2007, or when I did my first professional acting gig in 2007 (a one man hamlet sorry not sorry) or when I made my first show in 2016… and now every new show is a new beginning.

What can you tell me about your show?
I want it to be joyful, to be totally honest I want it to be riot, I'm trying to make a show that people are delighted they came to.
How would you describe the style of the show?
I would say a one-person storytelling show designed to entertain and hopefully elevate your soul.

How have you approached developing the piece?
Thinking, talking, listening; I tour around the UK for the rest of the year so it’s an ongoing thing, affected by everything I encounter… also just straightforward devising with help from a director and my friends and collaborators.

How do/will you prepare yourself for a run at the Fringe?
Stare aghast at the cost of accommodation. Book the accommodation… get excited. (Make a show).
