I was invited to see Dinner via Twitter/X.
In truth I wasn't sure if I could make the show due to other commitments, but I was very glad that I did.
Dinner is a dark comedy, reminiscent of the 1980s darker comedies from 'The Comic Strip Presents'. Or even with a touch of 'The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover'.
Paige is hosting a dinner party, whose aim is to have friends round to celebrate her husband’s new book.
The stage is impressive, a nice set especially for a Fringe Theatre production.
But, Paige isn't only wanting to serve a dinner party, she wants to serve shocking revelations. Affairs of the heart, infidelity and celebrations to turn sour just like the meal.
Food is served, from the waste bin! A dinner of leftovers and algae soup that could kill the dinner guests.
The characters are thought-out nicely, a few times when I did question was something needed. But not too many times.
It's full of good turns and twist to keep you entertained and engaged.
The end of the 'could have been' needed to be thought out a little better, which is a shame, as in truth, it's overall a well-made piece of theatre.
As another side note I'd also like to say well done on the poster. The Edinburgh Festival has over 3000 shows, probably more! It's impossible to read all the synopsis to choose a show to see, so when a poster stands out it does a lot of heavy lifting. This has a poster that in truth would make a great piece of wall art.
Well worth a viewing.
