Julian Azad Bonnet - LIMA Interview

How to reconcile solitude with everyday chaos. A Solo Comedy Drama by and with Julian Azad Bonnet about Life, Love and Loss...

LIMA, where routines and individual paradoxes resist – against all odds – the turmoil of convulsive and
cacophonous environments.

“No city, no crowd, no dirt, no noise, just air, pure air.
It feels like I’m born again.
Lying on the water, it rocks me.
My ears under water, it cuts me off reality.
For a moment I feel back in my mother’s belly.
Lulled by the amniotic fluid.
I could stay here forever, and I think:
I’m a lucky man...
what a lucky man... ”

The show will run at Etcetera Theatre in London as part of Camden Fringe on August 23rd at 5pm and August 24th and 25th at 9pm. It will also run on September 7th and 8th at 5pm.

Ahead of the run we caught up with Julian Azad Bonnet to learn more.

Where did your arts career begin?
In France, I started to practice Theater since I am a kid at school and have been practicing through all my education until I originally trained as a professional actor at the ‘Studio Theatre of Asnieres’ in Paris.

What can you tell me about your show?
It is a one man show portraying some characters and experiences of my life.

It is also a piece gathering different form of expressions such as poetry, acting, dance, rap and video in order to open an intimate communication with the audience.

How would you describe the style of the show?
It is a Comedy Drama set as a one man show.

How have you approached developing the piece?
By using a lot of free writing. It first came from a project I developed during my MA in acting in London. I decided to put on the paper every idea that inspired me out of my observations and meetings through my day-to-day life.

What has been the biggest challenge of bringing this show to life?
To assume entirely a show from A to Z which is something I never did before.

How much of the piece is based on your own experiences?
100 per cent of it.

What keeps you inspired?
Life and it’s challenges, people, my friends, my family, nature, music and all forms of art.
  • What do you hope an audience takes away from seeing the show?
Enthusiasm, curiosity and as much joy as can be.
Where can audiences see the show?
At the etcetera theatre; in Camden the 23rd, 24th, 25th of August at 5 and 9pm for the Camden Fringe and the 7th and 8th of September at 5pm at the same venue.
