MissMatch - Is This Thing On? - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

As part of our Edinburgh Fringe 2024 coverage, we are running a series of interviews with artists and creatives that are taking part in the festival.

In this interview, we speak to MissMatch about Is This Thing On?

What can you tell me about your show?
What's better, sad songs or sh*tty poetry? Meet flatmates Mary and Liz, one a musician and the other a poet, as they battle over integrity, ownership, the spotlight and whose turn it is to buy the freaking toilet roll. As their friendship reaches boiling point, one fateful open-mic night forces them to confront each other over whose right it is to tell someone's story.

How would you describe the style of the show?
A seamless blend of live singing, music, spoken word, rap, loop pedal and storytelling!

How do/will you prepare for the Fringe?
Brace for impact.

Other than the show, what’s something you’re looking forward to doing in Edinburgh this year?
Seeing other incredible shows, and meeting the people behind them! Especially looking forward to Bi-Topia, Identities, and House of Life!

If your show was a biscuit, what would it be and why?
A Jaffa cake because we’ll spend the whole time arguing over whether it’s a biscuit or a cake, but we’ll still eat it and love it at the end.

Give me a random fact about you/the show?
We wrote the show while living together and trying to be a poet and a musician- just like Mary and Liz…

What do you hope an audience takes away from seeing the show?
A sore tummy from laughing so much, but also puffy eyes… and perhaps a new perspective!

Where can audiences see the show?
Underbelly Cowgate, Delhi Belly Stage
2.25pm, 1st-25th August (Not 12th)
