SKETCHY - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

As part of our Edinburgh Fringe 2024 coverage, we are running a series of interviews with artists and creatives who are taking part in the festival.

In this interview, we speak to the team behind about SKETCHY.

What can you tell me about your show?
SKETCHY is a 50-minute sketch show whirlwind! We’ve got talking toothbrushes, competitive siblings and a few characters that you might recognise! After the success of writer Millie Thorne’s previous show, set in a drinks vending machine, we are back with our debut Edinburgh Fringe show.

How would you describe the style of the show?
SKETCHY is a classic sketch show - fast and quick witted, taking inspiration from comedy legends such as French and Saunders and Key and Peele. Whether you are a sketch aficionado or a first time giggler, if you’re looking for a laugh at Edinburgh Fringe, this is a show for you.

How do/will you prepare for the Fringe?
Lots of rehearsals and lots of meetings! Our cast and creative team live all over the UK, so we’ve had some intensive rehearsal weekends and so many WhatsApp messages we’ve lost count.

Other than the show, what’s something you’re looking forward to doing in Edinburgh this year?
We can’t wait to see our fellow sketch performers Biscuit Barrel and Up the Antics, as well as a favourite from last year - American stand-up Leah Renee.

If your show was a biscuit, what would it be and why?
Oo tricky one! I think we’d be Jaffa cakes - but the lime flavour ones! Our sketches are full of relatable moments, but just like those Jaffa cakes - we have some surprises!

Give me a random fact about you/the show?
Our amazing director Akaash Meeda won a BAFTA earlier this year for the short film Mobility. Typical of working in the arts, he was back at work pulling pints the next day - but we are incredibly proud!

What do you hope an audience takes away from seeing the show?
A laugh! Thirsty Productions is built on a love of comedy and bringing joy to people. The most important thing to us is that people walk away from the show having enjoyed it!

Where can audiences see the show?
The Snug at Paradise in Augustines from 6th - 10th August at 17:20pm. Start your night right with SKETCHY!
