After a successful Edinburgh Fringe 45-minute show last year (★★★★★ BroadwayWorld), Alex Prescot brings his debut hour Alex Prescot: Cosy to Edinburgh this August. Expect a warm and fuzzy blend of joyful musical comedy and quick-witted improvisation.
Cosy will be performed at Underbelly Bristo Square (Dexter) from 30th July - 25th August 2025 at 11:45 (60 mins) and is directed by Double Fringe First Winner and Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, Ben Target.
Ahead of the festival we sat down with Alex to learn more.
What can you tell me in your words about your show?
The show’s called ‘Alex Prescot: Cosy’ and it’s my debut solo comedy show. It’s a warm and fuzzy blend of joyful musical comedy and quick-witted improvisation, with one notably absent double-act partner. It’s on at 11:45am each day so it’s the perfect way to kick start your shows for the day!
Where did the inspiration for this piece come from?
The show’s inspired by double-acts I’ve been in, and also when I’m gigging around the country I chat a lot to the audiences and often make up songs about them, so some of those interactions have made it into the show too!
Very early on in the process my director Ben Target said ‘let’s try and make this the loveliest show at the Fringe’, and we’ve really both taken that to heart in making the show.
How have you approached developing the show?
I’ve been meeting up weekly with my director Ben since we started working together on the show last November. This schedule has been a real game changer for me - the added expertise and accountability has meant I’ve written a lot more this year than any other, which will mean more good stuff in the finished show!
I’ve also been doing work in progress shows since February, which has allowed it space to grow and change to become its current (hopefully best!) form.
How would you describe the style of the show?
Once a reviewer said I was ‘the comedy equivalent of sunshine’ and I will never, everlet that go! So in that spirit, it’s lots of upbeat, silly musical comedy, but there’s more heart than you might first expect too.
Can you describe the show in 3 words?
Joyful musical pick-me-up!
Are there any other shows at the Fringe you’d like to recommend?
So I'm a bit biased but I’m also performing in ‘A Jaffa Cake Musical’ at 14:00 every day at Pleasance, so would recommend that! Also, fellow Jaffa cast member Katie Pritchard is doing her brill solo show ‘Katie Pritchard: I Kiss The Music’ at Assembly at 17:45, and another fab cast member Harry Miller is in ‘How To Win Against History’ at Underbelly at 19:15, so that’s at least one of your days sorted!
Where and when can people see your show?
30th July - 25th August at 11:45am at Underbelly Bristo Square (Dexter) - I would love to see you there!
