National Theatre actors bring GCSE texts to life in new BBC Bitesize revision series

BBC Bitesize, the UK’s most trusted education brand, is evolving. To support students and parents through the intensity of exam season, they've launched a massive expansion of their revision toolkit, blending expert knowledge with the digital formats students love.

Revision, Reimagined: Introducing Literally!

The BBC have teamed up with the creative minds behind Horrible Histories and Horrible Science to launch Literally—a YouTube-first series designed specifically for the platforms young people use most. By swapping dry textbooks for humor and storytelling, they are making revision impossible to forget.

What can you expect?
  • Frankenstein’s Monster tackling "Autocomplete Interviews" to debunk sci-fi myths.
  • Napoleon from Animal Farm taking on the "Hog-Ones" challenge (a playful twist on the viral spicy wing interviews).
  • Mrs. Bennet sitting down for a "CEO Interview" to break down the language of Pride and Prejudice.
A Multi-Sensory Approach to Learning

Revision isn't one-size-fits-all. That’s why they have expanded their ecosystem of videos, podcasts, and study tools to ensure support is always accessible and relevant.
  • The National Theatre Collaboration: a growing podcast library, co-produced with BBC Sounds, now features four exclusive exam-skill episodes for GCSE English.
  • Expert Insights: Hosted by Carl Anka and Jean Menzies, the series features National Theatre actor Nina Cassells. Nina brings set texts to life through performance and shares professional secrets on memorization and character interpretation—techniques students can take straight into the exam hall.

Support Beyond the Subject Matter.

Exams are about more than just facts; they’re about mindset.
  • For Students: Study Support pages are a lifeline for those feeling overwhelmed. From beating procrastination to knowing when to step away for a break, they practical guidance for every stage of the journey.
  • For Parents: Navigating the "exam house" vibe can be tough. The new Bitesize Parenting Teens podcast, hosted by Kerry Godliman, provides honest, practical advice on supporting your child without adding to the pressure.

"Revision has changed, and students are increasingly turning to video and audio to help things stick. Literally is about meeting them where they are, bringing GCSE subjects to life in a way that feels engaging and genuinely useful. From our National Theatre collaboration to our parenting support, we’re bringing everything together in one place to reflect how families learn today."Cerys Griffiths, Head of BBC Bitesize
