Armageddon Outta Here - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.

In this interview, we speak with Tom Johnson about his show Armageddon Outta Here.

What can you tell me about your show?
Armageddon Outta Here is a fast-paced sketch comedy about the end of the world. As civilisation unravels, the polite disguise drops and we see humanity at its most depraved, ghastly and dense. TheatreToSeeLondon called has called it “anarchic, electrifying and outrageously funny", while Voice Magazine has said it is "total, unrestrained chaos - impossible to resist!".

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Fast, daft and a bit dangerous. It lurches between sketches, songs and bits that probably shouldn't be attempted in a licensed premises.

What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I had done a show called Verbal Diary the year previous which did quite well. I wanted to do another show, but this time amp up the violence and the amount I can swear. The result is Armageddon Outta Here.

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
Normally, writing anything satirical requires a certain amount of imagination. In 2026, most of the heavy lifting has already been done for you.

How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
By not looking at my bank balance.

If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
Parts off a Hillman Imp. If they collect enough, they can build a whole Hillman Imp.

What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without this month?
Anusol. Not glamorous, but neither is the Edinburgh Fringe.

What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
If I don’t have to sell my car.

Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
My mate John Otway is doing a run of shows at Voodoo Rooms. Enrico Touche is worth a watch. If you ever get the chance to see Kate Daisy Grant and Nick Pynn when you’re up here, beg, borrow or steal a ticket. They’re phenomenal.

What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
The Oxford Bar. I can’t remember if I’m barred.

Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Stupid. Loud. Destructive. Irreverent. Joyful.

What keeps you inspired?
The fear of doing a sensible day’s work.

What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
Our merch.

When and where can people see the show?
6th - 17th August, 12pm Noon, The Saloon Bar, Just The Tonic
