In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.
In this interview, we speak with Maitreyah and Kayah about their show Glass Child.
What can you tell me about your show?
Glass Child is a multi-disciplinary dance theatre piece exploring the lived experience of Kayahs and my life together. Our journey growing up, the positive and negative moments, it puts a microscope on our lives, and we are very truthful in what we have to say. At first the show begins like a ted talk, spoken from my point of view, but as the show goes on we step into kayah's world, where words are not necessary.

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
A dance theatre show, often described by audience members as a roller coaster of a journey. It is a auto-biography work, with real life home videos, real life memories. Nothing in this show is made up.. it is real .. it is our life story
What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I would say it is not a light bulb moment but a lifetime of experiences, to love someone so much and you cannot understand why the world can’t see what a remarkable person they are...and for Kayah he has seen how my body has absorbed all this heaviness over the years, and within the piece you will also get to see Kayah be the big brother, and encourage me to let it all go...

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
I think we the show has grown a lot over the years, and though this is an auto biographic work, it holds a universal language...I believe our story is very important because in a way it reminds people how important awareness is around treating individuals with disabilities with equality. The power of kindness goes a long way...

How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Lots of rehearsals and defiantly stepping into show mode because we are so excited.
We are aware this is an opportunity of a lifetime.... we remind ourselves constantly that our story is worth sharing and that we must allow ourselves to shine our light and share our story...We are defiantly excited to be amongst so many amazing shows and artists. Kayah and myself will be feeling the hype deeply as our younger selves could never have imagined making it this far.

Honest, raw, funny, love and dedication.
What keeps you inspired?
The understanding that this is a very complicated world we live in and it is important to continue sharing truth, and speaking up even though it is not always the easiest.

What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
I think the reflection that what we do matters, acts of kindness are the most powerful thing. Never underestimate the enormity of a simple gesture, it may be remembered for a lifetime.
