Emma Louise Lerner: We've Got Time - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.

In this interview, we speak with Emma Louise Lerner about her show We've Got Time.

What can you tell me about your show?
We’ve Got Time is funny, raw, and painfully relatable - a coming-of-age story about racing against our most limited resource: time. It explores what we owe each other (and ourselves) while crash-landing into adulthood with equal parts chaos and tenderness.

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Our goal is sitcom-style episodic theatre, we are bringing episode one this summer–and hope to bring more in the future!

What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I wrote the first scene of this play my senior year of college, filled with anxiety for the adult life I was about to embark on. I think as young people, we often take for granted the thrill of not knowing what’s next. In many ways, I wish I knew what the next chapter of my life was going to look like: milestones I’ll hit, fears I’ll conquer, grief I’ll feel…but I can’t. And as frustrating as that may be, it can also be liberating. There are all these factors in life we can’t control, the body we’ve been given, the family we’re born into, the talents we’re gifted, or the times we’re living through. But we can control one thing, the people we chose to share it with.

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
Being young right now is…complicated. We’re offering Gen Z a little bit of levity, with a real lens into the current lives we’re all living amongst total cultural crisis. Our generation is craving characters who reflect the messiest part of themselves and, in doing so, create space for catharsis, laughter, and a bit of forgiveness during this chaotic life stage.

How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
We started a We’ve Got Time chat and run club! And of course curated playlists for each character and the show to help us stay in the spirit of the show.

If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
Dinosaurs–real. Triceratops to be exact.

What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without at the Fringe?
Nerds gummy clusters.

What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
We want to introduce as many people to our characters as possible so we can keep creating more episodes!

Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
We are big fans of Gianmarco Soresi and super excited to see his show! And we saw Xhloe and Natasha here in NYC and loved their performances so we are stoked to see their show here,  Bigfoot Ripped My Dog In Half I Saw It. Other friends at Fringe include Leo Lion and Katy Murphy - they do phenomenal work and we’re excited to see their shows!

What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
Go for a quick hike up Arthur’s Seat, get out of the hustle for a moment!

Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Are phrases okay?
-Sit-com
-Girlhood
-Growing Pains
-Bi-Sexuality?
-Jurassic Park

What keeps you inspired?
The excitement of fellow young folks to be anti-Ai and create and celebrate original works like Obsession and Hacks

What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
Life is long, and every second does count, but it’s okay to waste a little time figuring out who you are, is it really a waste then?

When and where can people see the show?
Greenside Venues: Riddles Court
8/7-8/15 17:20

8/17-8/29 (no sundays) 16:10
