In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.
In this interview, we speak with Sophie Methuen about her show The Quiet Between.
What can you tell me about your show?
It’s a fast paced dark comedy about the trials and tribulations of a neurodivergent actor.
How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
It’s a series of sketches with a protagonist and a series of people she meets along the way.
What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
We wanted to create something funny but couldn’t think what. My cat shot me one of her looks of utter hatred and I knew what it was going to be about.
What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
With so much misery, sadness and darkness in the world we wanted people to come and have a laugh. Have a cry with us but leave knowing there’s hope.
How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Rehearsing, we are receiving support from mental health charities, eating well and sleeping.
If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?

What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without at the Fringe?
Someone once said if you feel nervous you need to look in the mirror and say to yourself I’m a lion and they go roar. So I have a bracelet which says roar. I couldn’t be without that bracelet.
What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
To have made someone smile
Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
Both Madam Isolde and Blood Me Up Marjory ( at The Space Surgeon’s Hall) have had us in stitches!
What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
The Royal Mile - it’s really impressive.
Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Hopeful, fast-paced, funny, thought provoking.
What keeps you inspired?
Learning - I love learning something new
What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
That there’s always another way out
