We caught up with Matt Terry to look ahead and to reflect on his career so far.
You’re stepping into The Best of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons for the 2027 tour, taking over the red velvet jacket from Peter Andre. How does it feel to lead a production celebrating such an iconic catalogue of music?
I am truly so excited for this tour, I’ve been singing these tunes my entire life so to get to do them infront of a live audience is going to be next level. I also have never done anything like this before. I feel like this show is a hybrid of both of my worlds, my own shows and musicals, moulded into one. I'M READY.

Frankie Valli’s vocal range—especially that signature, sky-high falsetto in tracks like Sherry and Big Girls Don't Cry—is legendary. How are you preparing vocally to deliver those demanding night-after-night performances on tour?
Modestly… Falsetto is my thing! And I have to credit my training in musical theatre to being able to sustain the amount of shows I do every year. I know how to take care of my voice, I know when to rest. I also recently watched the Celine Dion documentary where she really encourages vocalists to take care of their instrument now, so I’ve taken it up a notch too. Vocal nebulisers, steamers, hydration and personally for me plenty of sleep!

The Four Seasons’ catalogue has spanned generations, from original vinyl records to West End musicals like Jersey Boys. What is it about these specific songs that you think continues to resonate so deeply with audiences today?
They have such singalong energy. You only have to hear them once and you know where to go. So they are very welcoming songs with impressive vocals which is actually harder to write than you think. To blend both vocal ability with everyday crowd pleasers is in my opinion super tough, but of course Frankie does it in his sleep.

From playing Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages to Alex the Lion in Madagascar and The Grinch, you’ve tackled a remarkably diverse mix of stage roles. What drew you to musical theatre after launching your career as a pop artist?
Thank you. So my background is actually theatre. I trained in musical theatre before I did anything pop and as I mentioned earlier I owe it to my time at college to being able to do what I do all year round. Although music is my true love, musicals are something I adore too.

Theatre demands a completely different level of vocal stamina and physical routine compared to solo gigging or recording in a studio. What has been the steepest learning curve for you when navigating major national tours?
I couldn’t agree more. REST and you have to treat it like a marathon. Taking care of my body, eating healthy, warming up, cooling down. Singers are just like athletes so I always apply that mentality whenever I have huge stints of shows.

You’ve maintained a dual path—writing and releasing your own music while starring in major stage productions. How do these two creative outlets feed each other, and do you find that your theatre work influences your songwriting?
I appreciate that!! Honestly I enjoy jumping between both worlds. As a solo artist, it’s always about me everywhere I go, pressure is on me, I carry the load on my shoulders and that can get super tiring so to be able to jump into a musical to reinspire myself is a real luxury. And to perform as somebody else on stage, or a character is a lot less pressure!

We are nearing a decade since your X Factor win under Nicole Scherzinger's mentorship. Looking back at that fast-paced whirlwind now, what advice would present-day Matt give to the 23-year-old walking off that Wembley stage?
I really wouldn’t wanna meddle with him. I’d just say thank you. Because he got me here, where I am right now and it feels great. So I’d just say keep going, trust yourself and thanks!!

Reality TV can be a powerful launchpad, but sustaining a long-term career beyond it requires deliberate choices. How did you handle the transition from prime-time TV fame to building a steady, multi-faceted career in entertainment?
I don’t really know if I did handle it. I struggled massively after the show, it really took away the clear perspective I have of myself. Don’t get me wrong I’m extremely thankful for it and to it for everything, but I can’t be in debted to it forever. I like to smile back at it and keep moving. It’s an achievement, something I did…not my identity or who I am. So I think understanding that there is so many more chapters to my life is key. So I think the answer is MY MINDSET.

Nicole Scherzinger was a huge champion during your time on the show. Do you still draw on the lessons or advice she shared with you as you take on new career milestones?
To be blatantly honest, not at all.

You’ve mentioned that the stage is where you feel most at home. What is it about the live energy of a UK tour audience that keeps pulling you back to touring life?
ABSOLUTELY! I just love working, if I can call it that. I’m ready right now to share the stage with other talented humans and have a good time whilst doing. And UK crowds are the best because you really never know what you’re gonna get...

With an extensive run across UK cities starting in January 2027, what are your non-negotiable tour bus essentials or pre-show rituals for keeping your voice and mindset in top shape?
A comfy pillow, ear plugs, vocal zones, my nebuliser, my steamer and I do always try and have my own space when I can to be able to recalibrate!

If you could tell your younger self a piece of advice, what advice would you give?
It’s all coming, you can do it and anything is possible.

What are you most looking forward to about this forthcoming tour?
I love post show moments, discussing things that we enjoyed in the show, or things that went wrong that were funny, or crazy audience stories. So I think some togetherness with the cast and band. We’re gonna have an unreal time.

The Best of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons tours in 2027 opening on 15th January at The Core in Solihull and runs until 1st April at Lighthouse in Poole. For full tour dates and more information, visit https://fourseasonsshow.com/
