Isolation Interviews: Dominic Isaacs

Our next Isolation Interview is with Dominic Isaacs. Dominic is a third-year musical theatre student at Solent University in Southampton.

Q - What was the first show that you remember seeing?
A - My nan always says that the first show I ever saw was Doctor Doolittle the musical. However, the first one I remember seeing was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Palladium.

Q - What inspired you to get into performing theatre?
A - I don't think there was anything that inspired me to start performing as such, but I took part in my first amateur production when I was in year 6, fell in love with and have continued doing it ever since. I'm yet to perform on a professional level, but I graduate this year so hopefully, that will happen soon.

Q - What would your dream roles be?
A - Boq In Wicked, Eugine in Grease, Harry Bright in Mamma Mia and Thenardier in Les Miserables.

Q - Whose performance/s have had the biggest impact on you?
A - Ria Jones in Sunset Boulevard and Rachel Tucker and Clive Carter in Come from Away

Q - What is your favourite musical movie?
A - Very controversial, but both Mamma Mia movies. The show is very special to me.

Q - What are your favourite show tunes? (You can pick up to 5 songs)
A - I Dreamed A Dream (Les Mis), Me and the Sky (Come From Away), Goodbye (Catch Me If You Can), With One Look (Sunset Boulevard) and Hello Dolly (Hello Dolly).

Q - What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
A - It's not the most common piece of advice, but one of my musical theatre teachers always said to my class "You will fail before you succeed" and I think that's true. Especially in an industry like ours where rejection is common.

Q - Away from the theatre what are your other favourite hobbies?
A - I like reading and Baking. Not that I am any good at baking.

Q - Can you tell us something we wouldn't know about you?
A - Literally most things. I can be quite a quiet person at times and so I don't talk about myself a lot.
