Children's Treats This Spring at Belgrade.

Spring is fast approaching and Coventry's Belgrade Theatre has a fantastic range of shows to entertain both the young and the young at heart.

The family fun kicks off in February with the touring production of Billionaire Boy. Produced by Birmingham Stage Company and adapted from the novel by David Walliams, Billionaire Boy tells the story of 12-year-old Joe Spud who is the richest boy in the country. Despite having a sports car and £100,000 a week in pocket money, he has no friends. Come follow Joe as he tries to find what money can't buy. The production stars Matthew Gordon (Midsummer Night's Dream - GB  Theatre, Macbeth - Rotherham Underground) as Joe and Jason Furnival (Waterloo Road, Scott and Bailey) as Joe's Dad. Billionaire Boy runs on Belgrade's Main Stage from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th February 2022.

A new adaptation of George Orwell's classic novel, Animal Farm, arrives in April. Written and directed by Robert Ike (1984, co-directed with Duncan Macmillan). The production is produced by Children's Theatre Partnership in association with Birmingham Rep. Puppetry is designed and directed by Toby Olié. Head down to Manor Farm as the animals drive out the farmer and run their own farm themselves in a daring revolution. Animal Farm runs from Tuesday 12th to Saturday 16th April.

The action-packed stage adaption of Oi Frog and Friends! arrives in the B2 auditorium on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th May 2022. The original story by Kes Gray and Jim Field has been adapted for the stage by Emma Earle, Zoe Squire, Luke Bateman, and Richy Hughes. Oi Frog and Friends! features a magical combination of songs, puppetry, comedy, and rhymes.

Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful comes to the stage in May. The Peaceful brothers, Tommo and Charlie, have a fierce loyalty to each other, following a childhood of hardships. Will their relationship endure when they both fall for the same girl, and when the Great War comes? Set against the backdrop of World War One, the new ensemble retelling of Morpurgo's story is adapted by Simon Reade and directed by Elle White. The production runs from Tuesday 17th to Saturday 21st May 2022.

Oddsocks return to the Belgrade Theatre with their calamitous take on Hamlet - The Comedy. Shakespeare’s famous tragedy is performed like never before with lots of laughs and music. Follow the eponymous royal student who returns home for the summer holidays to find something rotten in the state of Denmark – and it’s more than just the bag of dirty washing! Hamlet - The Comedy runs from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 16th June 2022.

 The season is of children's treats is completed with Tall Stories musical adaptation of The Gruffalo. The original picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler is brought to the stage on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July. Perfect for kids 3 +, join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood. Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save him from ending up as dinner for the hungry woodland creatures? After all, there's no such thing as a Gruffalo, or is there?
