Ada Campe - Big Duck Energy Interview

In a series of interviews, we are chatting to artists involved with the 2024 Wandsworth Fringe. The Fringe Festival runs from 7th until 23rd June.

In this interview, we chat with Ada Campe about Big Duck Energy which runs at The Bedford in Balham on 16th June.

Where did your arts career begin?
My arts career began, in my heart and mind, when I first was onstage as a child and got a laugh from the audience. I was dressed as a pantomime calf at the time, and just fell in love with the playful possibilities of live performance. In practical terms, it began when I was a teenager when I had my first paid job on stage... dressed as a strawberry this time!

What can you tell me about your show?
It's a fun and funny glimpse into some of my formative experiences on stage and off - there are songs, silly stories, interactive magic tricks, and a truly fantastic and very special appearance from a big duck...
Where did the idea for the show come from?
I was thinking about regrets and missed opportunities, and the fact that you have to fail in order to learn - in life, in love, and in work. It's taken me years to get to a place of real joy, and I want to share that joy in fun ways.
How do you prepare for a performance?
A double espresso and an iced finger bun normally does the trick.
What is the message of your show?
Embrace your versatility, your uniqueness, and your Big Duck Energy!
If you were a biscuit, what would you be and why?
I'd be a Fortnum & Mason Toffolossus biscuit - because I'm both salty and sweet, have delicious and surprising chewy depths, and always look fabulous and fancy!
Can you describe the show in three words?
Fun, silly, joyful
When can people see the show and follow the journey beyond?
You can see the show at the WAF on the 16th June at 3pm at The Bedford in Balham. After that I'll be taking it to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. To follow me online check out my instagram @ada.campe and my website for all upcoming show dates and appearances.
