Dreamgun have been writing and performing parodies of classic films all over, be it Ireland, London or Edinburgh, turning many an action movie into comedy parody genius. In many ways, it feels like a good old classic radio show from the 1950s and 60s - 'Round The Horne' in particular - who often spoofed films of the times.
There is always the Narrator, and then in this case, 4 other actors performing all the other parts.
I have had the pleasure of seeing DREAMGUN live on two previous occasions with 'Terminator 2' and 'Lord of the Rings', but this instalment was the box office smash, Titanic. Did it sink..?
Well, no, it did not, but I have to say, it wasn't as great as I'd hoped. I thought Hannah Mamais' did a fantastic job as old Rose, young rose, and a few scrubbers on deck, making the most of her steamy time on board with Jack, but for the first time, I felt as if the performance was for them, rather than their sold-out audience. There were quite a few walk-outs within 15 minutes of the piece beginning, and I couldn't decide if these were people who had misread the point of DREAMGUN's purpose, whether they had another show to get to (which is often the case at the Fringe), or if the film choice hadn't grabbed them. For me, the latter was certainly the case. The humour wasn't as on point as I'd seen before, perhaps the movie screenplay didn't allow for much of it? I enjoyed it as I always have, but it wasn't my favourite.
