The Mothman Cometh - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

Review by Alice

"The Mothman Cometh" is a dark, and intense blend of experimental theatre.

It aims to make audiences laugh, cry, scream, and dance, creating a powerful and moving interactive hour, with the audience being guided through a series of cult-like rituals by the Mothman character, often in near darkness illuminated only by his glowing red eyes.

The show draws on the Mothman cryptid legend, which adds to its appeal for those interested in the strange and unusual. But take note: you need to be on board with the strange and unusual.

There is an abstract character development which felt as though it was aiming for something from vulnerable to powerful, and whilst I was mightily intrigued by the dedication, premise and excellent marketing designs for this production, I found the commitment from the audience and near-dark experience both frustrating, unsettling and uncomfortable.

I didn't always feel in control which may have been the point, but I became detached from the piece.
An unusual idea for anybody who enjoys an hour of temporary brain-washing. Not for the faint-hearted, and sadly, not for me.
