Bride To Be - Meg Millane Edinburgh Fringe Interview

In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.

In this interview, we speak with Meg Millane about their show Bride To Be.

What can you tell me about your show?
Bride To Be is a character-driven comedy about a woman deep in wedding planning. As she navigates cakes, DJs, and family expectations, she unravels the history and cultural weight of marriage, forcing herself to confront what commitment actually means to her. Torn between spectacle and substance, she must decide if she’s planning a wedding… or redefining it. Playful, poetic, and sharply relevant, Bride to Be offers a fresh feminist take on “I do."

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Bride To Be is a very high energy solo show that will have you laughing throughout! I incorporate characters and dance breaks that keeps the audience on their toes. It is whimsical and fun but will also make you think.

What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
Over the last couple of years, I have had a lot of friends who were either recently married or engaged, and we would often vent about all the absurdity that went into planning a wedding. And I thought to myself, 'hmmm I am feeling all these things about getting married, and other people are too! What if I wrote a show that encapsulated the phenomenon of being a bride!!'

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
I got married last year, so this show is a reflection of my experience with wedding culture. I am in my early 30's and a lot of my friends and peers are going through these big life changes i.e. marriage, baby, home ownership - personally I wanted to dive deeper into what emotions come up during these big life transitions. I also think the world is not doing so hot right now and it is a really awkward time to be planning a wedding. How do you tell your friends "yes we are at war.....but can you buy me a new toaster?!" But with that being said we also need pockets of unfiltered joy!

How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Journaling every day while in Scotland really set me up for success last year and helped me focus mentally. Also shout out to my therapist Michelle!!

I am a fitness instructor, so stretching, strength training and fueling my body properly is always of high importance for me. I know I perform my best when I take care of my body.

If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
I would wear my full wedding gown on the streets while handing out glasses of prosecco- who doesn't love free bubbly? I realllllyyy want to bring my wedding dress to Scotland but it takes up an entire suitcase!

What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without this month?
International phone plan :) Plus a portable charger....I get lost a lot.

What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
What a great question!! I think success for me is a lot of things
- Having fun! Because why else do this?!
- Connecting with the audience in an authentic way. I love when my work resonates with people who tell me they had a similar experience. But also just hearing the crowd laugh when they are supposed to laugh or groan when they are supposed to groan - it's an incredible feeling when you have the audience in the palm of your hand!
- Having a good-sized audience at every show.
- Getting a thoughtful (and good!) review.

Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
Olivia Attwood, Stacie Burrows, Liz Coin, Max Davidson, Irene Woo

What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
There is some great thrifting in Leith! I found some very affordable and interesting items last time I was in town.

Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Comedy about absurdity of weddings

What keeps you inspired?
I am constantly inspired by other phenomenal artists and shows! I just saw Titanique on Broadway which was buckets of fun and made me hyped to explore different comedy angles in my own show. I love watching interviews by my favorite performers such as Cole Escola, Cat Cohen and Christi Sommers. And also living a full life and prioritizing friendship provides endless inspiration for me. I feel so lucky to be an observer of my own existence.

What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
I genuinely hope people have so much FUN at the show and walk away feeling a little less stressed about their own lives. I think it is relatable for anyone that has been married, been a bridesmaid or even just attended a wedding. I hope they can also understand that we all contain multitudes and nothing is that deep! Also....DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY!

When and where can people see the show?
Aug 7th-15th
19:40 (55 min)
Thistle Theatre @ Greenside Riddle's Court
322 Lawnmarket EH1 2PG
