Rapism - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.

In this interview, we speak with Sadia Azmat about their show Rapism.

What can you tell me about your show?
Rapism is my debut (tho I've been to the Fringe a few times). It is about Rape (capital R). The prevalence of rape, the institutional acceptance of rape, the lack of understanding about rape and overcoming rape.

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Dark and funny. What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I was sitting with an individual that obviously didn't think very much of me, and then it came to me. People who think little of me, now there's a list, but it's something to work against you know. What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
Epstein, I mean well, they haven't found a cure. How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Exercise and practice. If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
My headscarf...? What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without at the Fringe?
I go commando What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
People enjoying the show, a few good reviews and maybe some career prospects to boost. Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
I'm a big fan of Jamali Maddix so if he's up there go and support. Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Funny, dark, cool, nuanced, real. What keeps you inspired?
It's not a constant, its something I have to reinvigorate from What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
A better understanding of people and the world. When and where can people see the show?
