Jane Eyre Convention - Edinburgh Fringe Interview

In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.

In this interview, we speak with Eleanor Zeal of Theatre Caddis about their show Jane Eyre Convention

What can you tell me about your show?
It’s is an original comedy that explores the Jane Eyre story via four fanatics who meet at a Jane Eyre  reenactment convention, involving a lot of arguments and ridiculous behaviour.

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
It’s a broad comedy, quite physical farce with serious moments.

What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I think several Jane Eyre films appeared in quick succession so I thought surely there must be a call for a Jane Eyre convention where everyone could be their favourite character.

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
Lots of instability in the world, the story is set in slower times and it should be entertaining and distracting.

How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Press-ups?

If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
A bonnet.

What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without this month?
Medications

What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
A well-received show, good reviews, new contacts and possibilities.

Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
360 Allstars.

What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
Arthur’s Seat

Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Energetic and funny with bonnets.

What keeps you inspired?
Great literature and wonderful co-actors

What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
Happy feelings.

When and where can people see the show?
Snifter Room, Just the Tonic, 6th -28th Aug.
12.35pm
