In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.
In this interview, we speak with Miss Frisky about her show Frisky's Remix Roulette.
What can you tell me about your show?
Frisky’s Remix Roulette is an interactive music extravaganza, where the audience decide exactly what we play, and exactly how we play it. Any song, any style - they decide. The show brings together Frisky (Frisky & Mannish, La Soiree, Briefs: Sweatshop) with a team of world-class musicians to bring the audience’s depraved musical fantasies to life. Last year, in ‘Frisky’s Reshuffle’, Edinburgh was reacquainted with Frisky’s warmth, wit, chaos and charm, for the first time in a decade, and this year we aim to bring even more unhinged energy to the Fringe.
How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
This show straddles comedy, cabaret and straight-up gig - you’ve got Frisky up front, working the room, and insanely talented musicians right behind her creating musical magic in an instant. The show is totally different each night, depending on what the audience ask for - in the past we’ve had everything from Heavy Metal Madonna to Opera WAP (if you don’t know WAP, don’t look it up, you’ll be traumatised). It’s fast, it’s spontaneous, it’s hilarious, and it’s all in your hands.
What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
The ancestor of this show is absolutely Frisky & Mannish, who, some may recall, had a fantastic run of shows at the Fringe back in the 2010s. Their shows were very tightly scripted and slick, but there was one section where they picked one song, and audiences were able to suggest different styles. Frisky says, “That was always my favourite part of the show, but Mannish dreaded it!” The idea was developed with a full band over years of working in dinner shows in Europe, and something about turning 40 finally made Frisky pull her finger out and get on with making it as an actual show.
What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
This is the follow-up to the debut, the 2.0, the special extended edition, the latest version, the upgrade. Last year, critics and audiences were raving, and it felt like the festival was over too soon. So we had to bring it back, even bigger, even bolder, and absolutely ready for anything.
How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
It’s quite difficult to prepare for a show where you might be asked to play anything… we genuinely have a “reading list” playlist, that covers every music genre we could think of, from Mongolian throat-singing to trap. Our ‘Spotify Wrapped’s are an absolute mess. Other than that, we’re all taking the usual precautions - no drink, no vapes, no sugar, no touching, etc.
If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
We actually have an interactive, playable flyer this year! There’s a game at www.remixroulette.com/spintowin where people can genuinely spin two roulette wheels - one with songs, one with styles - and they can see a clip of us performing whatever it lands on. There are also ticket discounts, and even free tickets, that they can win too! Who doesn’t love a bit of light gambling?!
What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without at the Fringe?
A good bag!! You need to be prepared for literally any weather, so you need a bag that can handle waterproofs, sun hat, water bottle, all your essentials, plus your own stash of flyers, also all the flyers for shows you want to see, snacks (you never know where you might end up when), and, of course, phone charger, because you won’t be going home for around 20 hours of the day.
What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
If you can’t find financial success (and, honestly, who can?), you have to define it on your own terms entirely. Our success will look entirely different from the next show’s. For us, we genuinely want to have a sensational time on that stage every single night, and have a room of people (of however many we can manage) on their feet, having a blast with us. That is truly what success looks like for us. Though, obvs, we’d love to actually cover our costs, but let’s not get fanciful.
Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
We have many dear friends bringing amazing work, and we can’t wait to see them all in action - Kirsty Mann: Corpse (horror-comedy-theatre), Werewolf (interactive apocalypse theatre), Otto & Astrid (character musical comedy), Sophie’s Surprise 29th (circus party mayhem), The Bob Ross Effect (solo character theatre piece) - to name but a handful.
What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
We actually like to duck into the amazing galleries and museums of Edinburgh when we want to escape the Fringe mayhem (and weather). Edinburgh has such a wealth of culture all year round, and so many smaller, but beautiful and fascinating exhibitions, it’s well worth hunting around for something in line with your whims and interests. And it’s always good to get some high culture to balance-out the delicious Fringe nonsense.
Can you describe the show in 5 words?
It’s all up to you.
What keeps you inspired?
Music! God, that sounds twee, but it’s true. You couldn’t possibly hear all music, or conceive of all combinations. We’re endlessly surprised and challenged by what we hear and the suggestions we get.
What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
While what we’re doing it essentially very simple, it’s fiendishly difficult to actually achieve. We have to throw ourselves in, trust each other, and just roll with it. We hope people can see that, and perhaps realise that there’s enormous fun to be had in throwing yourself into something before, perhaps, you quite feel ready, and allowing yourself to be surprised at yourself! It would be wonderful if people leave both entertained, and a little emboldened.
