In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.
In this interview, we speak with Stacy Price about her show Citizen Otherplace.
What can you tell me about your show?
Citizen Otherplace is about the HELL that is the United State healthcare system and also, I promise, really funny.
It's interactive, weird and follows the journey of ONE patient as she is hunted down by a medical billings collector.
How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Interactive, deadpan, FUNNY, quite weird and somehow talking about very dark things in a palatable way.
What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I am a cancer survivor and I wanted to savagely review huge problems in the United States healthcare system AND issue a big warning for other places (like the U.K) that are thinking of adopting our system.
What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
Critical decisions are being voted on by NHS right now in regards to the UK. The United States needs an entire system reboot RIGHT NOW.
How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
We have had 2 workshops with an upcoming workshop July 28th to prepare and test out the material. Spoiler alert: the audience may get to throw something!! I will be taking lots of yoga, saving up all the money I can and I am now following lots of Edinburgh food accounts.
If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
I am handing out hospital bracelets that I can put on people's wrists! It's happening! Look out for me! It says the name and location of our show as well as a scanable barcode
What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without this month?
This is my first time at the Fringe! My big guess? Sun screen.
What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
If a few days after the show, someone says something about it, I think I will consider the show a success. I'd also like YOU to see it. Can you please see it?
Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
SO MANY. I am very interested in The Raft on the Crab and then some other fellow Greenside venue shows which look pretty exciting!
What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
I've heard great things about the Witchery. And I'm all about trying the food!
Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Interact with the U.S healthcare.
What keeps you inspired?
Audiences. People. Being given chances and support to work and create as an actor and artist.
What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
Let's change U.S. healthcare AND getting well, healing, is just as much a part of life as anything else! Fight whatever your IT is, don't be too scared, be BRAVE! And also laughing, lots of hahahas.
