In our ongoing Edinburgh Fringe 2026 interview series, we are speaking to artists and creatives who are bringing their shows to the Scottish capital this summer.
In this interview, we speak with William Stewart about his show Silly Goose!
What can you tell me about your show?
Here at Silly Goose Comedy, we think everyone does silly things from time to time. Silly Goose! gives everyone a therapeutic chance to get their most foolish, fruity, and funniest moments off their chest. A rotating line-up of 3 special guest comedians will grace the stage and then discuss the audience's stories, with a prize awarded to the silliest goose.

How would you describe the style of your show to anyone who has never seen you before?
Welcoming, a little bit chaotic, and very very funny.
What was the lightbulb moment that led to the creation of this piece?
I was hosting our regular monthly show, and I spoke about something ridiculous that I had done recently (at work, I found out that I had been calling my director by completely the wrong name for several months). In order to make myself feel better, I asked the crowd if anyone had done anything equally silly recently. Turns out tons of them had! We made it a regular question in our show and the format was born.

What makes 2026 the perfect year for this specific story or performance?
I think the world has gotten a bit serious recently. You turn on the news and everything is going downhill . You look on social media and everyone is posting perfectly compiled versions of their lives. Even the world cup led to a serious debate about presidential overreach. This show is a celebration of the opposite of that and is a chance for people to realise that everyone else is just as silly as them from time to time.
How will you mentally and physically prepare for a run at the Fringe?
Physically, I’ve been practicing my flyer handing out for months now. Really been working on forearm strength and the coordination of both hands so that I can dual wield. Mentally, I’ve been screaming into a pillow for a while now and hope that helps come the big day.
If you couldn’t use a flyer to attract audiences, what ridiculous object would you hand out to people to get them into your show?
Most people tend to be at their silliest when they’ve had a beer or two so maybe something to target bar and pub goers. Would beer mats or urinal cakes work? Otherwise, just free whoopie cushions to help everyone get a bit silly.
What is the one item in your Fringe Survival Kit that you can’t live without at the Fringe?
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to be able to bring my coffee machine with me, otherwise it would be that without a doubt. In its stead, I’ll say my goose hat. How else would I let everyone know that I’m up for a honking good time?

What would you deem as success at the end of the Fringe?
I want one person to reveal something at our show that they’ve previously never said out loud
before. I’m not sure what it’s going to be yet, which is part of the fun, but the type of thing that makes even their friends react in shock.
Other than your own show, are there any other shows you would recommend at the Fringe this year?
I’m looking forward to seeing Gianmarco Scoresi as he’s not in the UK too much. Otherwise, I have no doubt that Eloise Eftos, Madeleine Brettingham, & Lady Clementine 2 are going to be absolutely blockbuster.
What is one Edinburgh spot that you would recommend people to visit when they're not watching performances?
Has anyone said Arthur’s Seat yet? Tbh if you’re coming to Edinburgh and this interview is the first you’re hearing of it then probably don’t bother. Otherwise, I’d recommend people remember to take a visit to their sofa from time to time.

Can you describe the show in 5 words?
Whimsical, cheeky, charming, cheerful, & honking.

What keeps you inspired?
As with all great artists, I’m in it for the money.
What would you hope someone takes away from seeing the show?
That other people are just as stupid as they are
